FOR THE DESIGN OF GYNECOLOGICAL GARMENTS
TO ENSURE INTIMACY, BODY POSITIVITY,
CONFIDENCE AND SELF LOVE

GyneCare is an innovative initiative that focuses on improving the gynecological patient experience, driven by awareness of the trust issue associated with gynecological consultations, exemplified by the concept of “gyneco-bashing”.

This project seeks to respond to persistent challenges in the field of gynecology, in particular by proposing a solution to the problem of nudity during medical examinations, which deters many women from seeking appropriate care and leads to serious consequences for their health.

To remedy this situation, the diploma project carried out at ECAL aims to design specific clothing for gynecological consultations, which respects the dignity and privacy of patients while guaranteeing the quality and accessibility of medical care. GyneCare is committed to innovating by offering a comfortable and judgment-free solution, allowing women to benefit from gynecological consultations without apprehension or stigma.

The gynecological examination takes place in several distinct phases: first, an examination of the armpits is carried out, followed by a check of the chest, then finally the pelvic examination. Thanks to the specific outfit, it is possible to carry out all of these tests without the patient ever being completely undressed.

The moisture management of hemp fiber is exceptional, making it more pleasant and healthy to wear. The antibacterial properties of this material, in particular its resistance to certain viruses, make it a protective solution for the manufacture of medical equipment sensitive to contamination. Masks and other surgical gowns can thus become real natural protective barriers.

Additionally, the blood red color of the fabric used for the back of the outfit was designed to hide any blood stains that might appear during checks, so as not to embarrass or frighten patients.

After a year of intensive work, Lirjeta developed a project that she chose as the subject of her third-year thesis at ECAL in 2023. This project met with great success, supported by her professors, experts, and design associations. It was showcased at prestigious events such as the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven and was selected for Milan Design Week.

This project addresses a widespread issue affecting over half of the population, which requires gynecological consultation, highlighting the importance of understanding and addressing this issue to facilitate access to medical care.

Currently, Lirjeta Maxhuni is collaborating with several private gynecological practices, as well as larger institutions such as clinics or specialized hospitals in this field. She is also in communication with various suppliers to expedite the launch of the first edition as quickly as possible.

Her intention is to materialize this project as quickly as possible so that these clothes can be distributed and made available in various clinics over the coming months. Through this process, Lirjeta's goal is to ensure that individuals have access to these clothes when they need them most, thereby improving their overall healthcare experience. This implementation will not only benefit those seeking gynecological care but will also help raise awareness and address the widespread issue at hand.
